单选题 VI. Reading Comprehension Passage I No Self-Respecting Adult Should Watch Superhero Movies Rhymer Rigby Way back in 1989, I quite liked the first modern Batman film - and yet now I curse(诅咒) it. A quarter of a century later, when the comic world (漫画界)are running out of innovative ideas, we finally end up combining the two superheroes. I am, of course, talking about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The thinking behind the get-together of the Superman and the Batman must go like this - "These are two really successful brands we've been making money of for years and the audience is starting to notice that they're a bit long in the tooth (年老的)..." Of course most of the superhero films aren't actually crap (质量很差的东西) in the way that. The Last Airbender(《降世神通:最后的空气之子》) or Gigli(《鸳绑匪》) were crap. Many of them are nicely shot and use first-class actors. They often have talented directors. They even get decent reviews. And yet, an hour after watching the latest iteration(重复) of Superman/Batman/Iron Man/The Flash/The Green Lantern, I can barely remember anything about it. The trouble is the source material. In the case of Batman and Superman, this was originally written for ten-year-old boys. A man who can fly with lasers(激) in his eyes. A man who dresses as a bat dispensing justice (正义)to bad guys. It's fun but it's fundamentally very silly stuff. Of course, I know there's a business case for it. I understand that big franchise films (特诉权电影) come with built-in branding (内置品牌). I get that, if you went to see Iron Man, you may well go and see Iron Man 2 all the way through to Iron Man 47. I know these films do well in increasingly important markets like China because they're easy to dub (译制). I recognise that big explosions and stunning, yet somehow entirely predictable, CGI(电脑特效) are a kind of lingua franca(通用语) for cinema audiences the world over who don't want to think very hard. In a way though, the cynical (愤世嫉俗的)business case is the least of my gripes(抱怨). Far more troubling is the widespread notion that somehow these films have something important to say. God knows how many articles I've read saying, "Actually, Batman v. Superman and Captain America: Civil War are about fascism(法西斯主义) and America's love of authoritarianism (独裁主义). Well, maybe they are. But I can think of dozens of better ways to show the authoritative aspects of America than two guys in tights (紧身衣) talking on about the kind of hero America needs. The obvious way is just better films. Films like Sicario (《边境杀手》) and A Most Wanted Man《最高通缉犯》) which manage to say something interesting and thoughtful about the world in which we live - and all for a tenth of the budget小题:Why do filmmakers combine the Superman and the Batman in the new movies
